Should the Signs of the Outer Planets Be Interpreted in an Individual Chart?

Students of astrology overemphasise the sign position of one of the outer planets, not realising that, due to the slow movement of the outer planets, everyone born for a number of years has the same configuration as they do. As a result, save in the cases when it coincides with personal planets or the Ascendant, that component is unlikely to have much of an influence on an individual. It is more important to consider how it relates to the chart and how it shapes an individual’s inner essence. Because an…...

Most Aspected Planet: The Hub

Most aspected planet. People don’t tend to take account of the importance of aspects; the more aspected a planet is, the more you will represent its traits because of the energies that it receives. It doesn’t matter if the aspects are positive (sextile and trine), negative (square and oppositions) or neutral (conjunction). A planet being highly aspected means that its energy reacts to and receives reactions from several other planets. In transit, it can cause a whole network of energies to be activated. Meaning, there is a lot of energy in this part of your chart,…...

The Ruling Planet: It Is Usually the Ruler of the 1st House – But Not Invariably So

Question: I’m just reading ‘Esoteric Astrology’ by Alan Leo. (On page 149 of the paperback), he says ‘In the lower worlds the ruling planet now becomes the representative ray of the individual and as such appears to be a sub-influence of the primary coloring.’ My first question, one that I’ve been thinking about asking someone for years..how do you determine the ‘ruling planet’ of a chart, and the second question, what is Leo is talking about here? The ruling planet is not as straightforward to discern as you might first…...

Several Planets in a Sign: A Spiritual Crisis

Some of you may have a sign in your chart that is accentuated by a number of planets. This zodiacal sign subsequently becomes very important in your life, and its themes are clearly identified. According to Dane Rudhyar’s work, when a particular astrological sign is made prominent by the presence of many planets, difficulties or concerns relating to the spiritual dimension associated with that sign are more likely to manifest themselves. The following is an example given by the astrologer:   In the chart of President F.D Roosevelt, four planets…...

Astrology’s Mysterious Power: Have You Experienced Metalog?

Learning astrology is very much a continuous process of delving deeper into reality and delving further into the process of personal progress. A large number of astrology students regard astrological texts as exciting dramatisations of psychological processes. Astrology depicts the recurrent themes that drive mankind throughout history. It is possible to discern the innate needs and value conflicts of every person, and frequently of the collective, when astrology is used in this way, and occasionally when it is misused. It serves as a dramatic demonstration of the incredible strength of…...

Disassociate (Out of Sign) Aspects: Look at Degrees, Not at Signs

Due to the amount of orb allowed, aspects can form between two planets that are at the end of their respective zodiac sign and the beginning of a sign. Many astrologers believe that this weakens the potency of the aspect. In the case of a trine aspect, for instance, the fact that both signs are in the same triplicity (fire, earth, air, or water) would generally make the contact easier than it otherwise would be in the case of a dissociated sign. That is to say, a trine formed by…...

Two Opposing Elements Fighting It Out

Question: If my number of planets in the two elements of air and water are both the same, then which of the two is the more prominent in my make-up? The psychological qualities of water and air on the astrological chart are diametrically opposite to one another, and this opposition generates a conflict within the psyche as the two elements compete with one another for supremacy. In order to determine which of the elements (air or water) is most dominant, you may need to look at the placements of planets associated with different…...

Mutable: The Weakest Mode?

Question: The mutable mode (Gemini, Virgo, Sagittarius, and Pisces) have the least resilience of the other modes and they don’t make very loyal friends, too fickle. I find they take way too long to get their s**t together, are too easily influenced, and have a weak sense of identity. Any thoughts? When it comes to the modes you’re damned if do adapt (mutable), and you’re damned if you don’t adapt (fixed). I think the very sound of the word resilience can actually capture a bouncy, rubbery quality. Webster’s Collegiate Dictionary…...

Fire Signs: When Things Go Wrong

In ‘Psychological Astrology, Astrological Symbolism and the Human Psyche’ by Karen Hamaker-Zondag, there is a part on the Four Elements and the Psychological Types discussing how the FIRE signs deal with a crisis, a reversal of fortune, or when a predicament changes life. I took particular notice of this description because every time there is a roadblock at home or something wrong happens my partner, who has some very strong FIRE features in his chart, gets very shouty and outspoken to the point of overdramatizing it all. Here is what…...

What Is a Singleton Planet?

Actually, this question does leave some confusion around the proper definition of a singleton. Due to the unaspected planet and whether or not this should be included in the interpretation. It is similar in expression, but often when looking at a chart you do see a planet that is a singleton, aspected by other planets, and yet has this dissociated vibe. It usually appears off on its own. Divorced from the rest of the chart and disconnected. Like when you see a planet sitting over one side of the chart…...

Reflecting Over the Years

I’ve been having a reflective couple of days looking back over these posts. While I’m only just getting towards the Uranus opposite Uranus transit, I’ve done the other two (been there, done that, and bought the t-shirt). I moved house, got a mortgage, left an astrology group, and started over at the first Saturn Return. The Saturn square Saturn transit was at a time where I had to make the decision to either have more children (biological clock ticking) or to do something with this website and work at it…

Astrology: A New Day

With astrology some of the interpretations of your chart will feel like they have neon lights above them, the things that really hit home, and others won’t resonate as strongly until later as more of you unravels. No two horoscopes are identical, no two snowflakes the same. Astrology takes you on a “psychic guided tour” and it is a challenge, for each and every one of us has contradictions, as well as both darkness and light. As Waly Whitman wrote in Song of Myself: “I am large, I contain multitudes.…...
