The Cost of Living Series: Your Mystical Guide
I was in the middle of writing Capricorn’s Cost of Living, and I knew it would resonate with me. I’m a Sun in Pisces, but I felt like Capricorn might reflect my style more—especially since I have the Sun opposite Saturn (Saturn rules Capricorn). This alignment really shapes my outlook. I often read Capricorn sections in astrology books as if they’re meant for me. Economically, it just makes sense. With my Sun opposite Saturn, those Capricorn themes of discipline, responsibility, and long-term planning really apply. Even though I’m a Pisces, readings about Capricorn often speak more directly to how I approach things like work, spending, and survival. Although I do have a naughty Venus opposite Jupiter that leads to some spendy moments.
“See, Capricorn doesn’t spend for show. If the price is inflated, if the value doesn’t match the cost, they walk away. Their money isn’t just currency — it’s a record of effort, a symbol of how many late nights and early mornings they’ve endured. So no, they’re not flinging it at overpriced produce or panic purchases. They’ll plan, they’ll wait, and they’ll outlast the madness. Because they can.”
The signs don’t always fit perfectly—they’re more of a broad guide. Venus aspects, for example, can definitely influence spending habits. And while sun signs give a general vibe, aspects can shift things significantly. So even though I’m a Pisces, but I don’t always relate to the overly typical dreamy or emotional Pisces descriptions. I often have to add a dose of harsh reality to the mix—thanks, in part, to other influences in my chart (Saturn). I’m a Pisces, alright? Starry-eyed, soul-searching, certified moonhowler. But half the time I read these water-sign horoscopes, I think, ‘Who’s this emotionally transcendent mystic they’re on about? Not me.’ Then I get hit with life’s cold slap of reality—and yes, obviously, I cry like a proper Pisces.
Lately, I’ve had to accept that I might have more of a mystical side than I once thought (or wouldn’t accept). My chart has shifted—Pisces is everywhere anyway, with squares to Neptune and two planets are in the 8th house (in the new adjusted chart). I have now have two outer planets in 3rd house (Uranus and Pluto). For a long time, I didn’t see astrology as particularly “occult” because it’s something you can map, track, and study. It felt more obvious than secretive. But I’m starting to realize that my draw to astrology may have always been rooted in something more watery and intuitive. It’s the mystery that keeps on giving—never fully explained, always pulling you deeper.
Saturn is very powerfully aspected in my chart, which adds a sense of discipline and realism that isn’t usually associated with Pisces. I also have Venus in Capricorn, which adds another layer—more reserved, value-conscious, and grounded in its expression. All of this together shapes a very different picture than what you might expect from just looking at my Sun sign.
So if you’re reading The Cost of Living by sign, don’t just stop at your Sun sign—read them all and see what resonates. Then, take a look at your chart to see if strong planetary signatures reflect those themes. You might have Venus square Saturn, for example, and really relate to the Capricorn reading when it comes to your spending habits. Or maybe your Sun is square Pluto, and you find the Scorpio description speaks more to how you’d handle a life crisis. Astrology isn’t always neat—the deeper truths often show up in the whole picture of your chart.
So remember, this is just a loose guide. If the Aries reading resonates with you, it might be because you have a strong Mars in your chart. If Taurus or Libra themes hit home, take a look at your Venus placements. And so on. Sometimes it’s not the Sun sign that tells the full story—it’s the planets behind the scenes, shaping how you live, spend, and survive.
